CAR INSURANCE for a NEW DRIVER. ? need help. ?

8 Jun 2010im 18 and im having my driving test next month and my parents will buy me a used 1999 chevy malibu as my first car and put my name on it.
i was thinking on using that car in my driving test but do i need to have a car insurance for it?
my questions is..how does CAR INSURANCE works? what are the requirments to get a car insurance?
i only work once part time when i was 16 and i dont have any credit card.
do i need to have a job to get my car insurance?
what are my options?
i really need help.
any advice/opinions will be very helpfull.

not sure about canada but in ny you can get your parent to buy the insurance. also they probably wont let you use your own car unless it has breaks for the passenger seat also.

For car insurance the obvious way to get a great quote is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make certain that you compare similar options with the same limits, car type, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.
What I most often recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have top name insurers and will give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.
