For auto insurance in CA, do I have to have “Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury” coverage? Is this one important? Thank you!

I just bought an 09 ford escape XLS, with a 4 cylinder engine and lo-jack installed.
I’m 27 years old and a married federal employee.
