Clean car title, but carfax says otherwise? HELP!?

Sorry folks, this is a long one. But it is important. I went to my inbox the other day to receive a big surprise. Esurance, the company I have loved and used for five years with no problems, are DUMPING us. Why? Because carfax deemed my husband’s vehicle salvaged! And Esurance will not insure a salvaged, rebuilt or restored vehicle, for “hazard” reasons.
I checked the vin, checked the title, checked the info with the insurance, it’s correct. We live in CT, and we spoke with the CT DMV, who stated that it would be illegal for them to give us a “clean” title if the car were previously deemed salvaged. They would have notified my husband about it and would tell him it is illegal to drive it without proper re-build. And if he got it rebuilt and passed an inspection, the title would still say “rebuilt” in big black letters. They ran a report today and the title dept at the DMV stated that the car was indeed involved in a rollover but was not deemed a “total loss” or “salvaged” vehicle. And that Allstate took the claim and apparently had it fixed. Which is why our title is clean. Now my insurance company is trying to help me dispute carfax, but based on the fact that the incident was in a different state, carfax could very well be right, and we could be putting our children at risk in that death trap.
What do you think our chances of winning this dispute are? Based on the DMV record and the clean title?
Or, if I am a victim of “title-washing” …what are my rights?

Good luck with this question, its a doozy. I’ve found no luck anywhere else, so I trust you guys.
I bought the car from a family friend, who bought it from a dealership. We lived next door to our friend so we would have noticed if the truck was in an accident in any way. He only used it for a few trips to the beach with his kids, it was more his “road trip” vehicle. We didn’t get ripped off from him, he had a clean title too and never knew. He feels terrible. It’s the dealership that I’m sure screwed him over. And, us, in the long run. Only time will tell.

1. Where did you buy the vehicle from because they would have known about this before the sale both private and dealer sales would have had to see the amount of work done on a rollover…

2. When did you buy the vehicle ???

3. Carfax has had a lot of problems reporting issues with vehicles (search out carfax problems)..

4. You do also know that you must now remove the plates since its salvaged plus it cannot be drive at all anywhere..

5. From all that you have said, it sounds like you got ripped from the seller and that is where you need to start and you need to do it now……

6. Lastly I do not believe that you will be able to get the correct documentation to prove that all the required work are done on this vehicle…
