dump truck insurance question. ?

hi just wondering i have been looking into driving a dump truck and maybe a semi with a dump trailer but the cost of insurance is kind of steep. I am 22 yrs old and currently have a class B cdl. I already drive a straight truck every day going to chicago and back so ive got 1 year of experience driving already. The insurance quotes we have been getting are pretty steep. I have a very good driving record but i think it is because of my age because if i was 25 it would be 3 times cheaper. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and are there any other ways around it or am i stuck with the high policys till i turn 25. Im pretty new to this so i just wanted to know. Thankyou.

You’re right, it’s your age that’s making the premiums so high.

You might lower it a bit by having someone else the primary on the policy with you listed as additional driver; however, it will still be pretty expensive.

just a thought. if you don’t need to drive the dump truck every day don’t have insurance on it every day. what i mean is if you’re only driving the dump truck a few days each month just get a trip permit. they’re not too awfully expensive and they’re available for 3 days i believe.

Try State Farm. It doesn’t matter how old you are but it does matter how many years you have had your drivers license. Since you are driving a commercial vehicle even that probly does not matter. It also matters if you are driving internationally then good chance State Farm could not cover you. But if you are driving within California you should be getting a pretty good rate. These are just general answers . Make a couple of phone calls to be sure.

Unfortunately age is one of the factors in determining your truck insurance rate. I found an article that discusses other insurance factors as well such as truck driving experience, employment history, accident history, driving area, equipment operated, etc.

The truck insurance article is located at: http://www.covermeinsurance.com/articles/how-truck-insurance-premiums-are-determined.html

Keep shopping around, you may find a better rate.
