Will my car insurance premium increase if I was the victim of a hit and run and report a claim?

My car was hit in my apartment building parking lot and the driver took off, leaving me to pay for the damages. The damage is significant – large dent in front passenger door and chipping paint. If the costs end up being higher than my deductible and I report the accident, will my car insurance cost increase as a result? I’m wondering if it helps that the accident wasn’t my fault and that it was a hit and run. Any information is appreciated!

Since there’s no way you could be considered at fault in that scenario, your premium should not increase.

Do the math. If you want your car repaired, you have 2 choices. You can pay it out of pocket or you can have your insurance pay for it. If the cost to repair is say, $4500.00 and your deductible is $500. and they raise your rates say, $50.00 a year for 3 years, what would someone with half a brain do?

It probably will, but maybe not. Still, in your case you should get it fixed.
